Little Bird Tales

As part of the ICT contract we have been introduced to Little Bird Tales.
This is a programme to write stories online.
Children from Room 4 offered to help us learn how to use this app.

Each group of children set themselves up and began to write their stories.

We are able to create our own pictures as well. Thanks Room 4!

Special places

Today Room 1 and 2 began our unit on Special Places. We walked down to the site where the Baptist Church used to stand and experienced the of 185 Empty Chairs that commemorates the lives of those who died in the earthquake on 22 February 2011.

Chris the Minister explained about the 185 square metres of grass and the 185 Empty Chairs.

We spent two minutes in silence to pray for those who died.

We then walked across to the river and looked at the sculpture that commemorates those who died in the Twin Towers on 11 September.

Both places are special to the people of Christchurch.

Patterns of Five

Using the Cuisenaire rods we tried to make patterns of five. This is what it looked like....

We are now making patterns of 12.....

Lisa from the Library

This term we had a visit from Lisa, the librarian. She read a Margaret Mahy story to Room 1 and Room 2.

We looked to see what was behind the chair.

We threw feathers up in the air and tried to catch them.

We enjoy your visits, Lisa. Thank you.

Penguins

With what we discovered about keeping warm, we designed a penguin with things we thought would keep them warm.
