Welcome to 2014

A warm welcome from all the children in Room 2. We have had a wonderful holiday and today we celebrate the different cultures in our class and school.
We have children with a variety of ancestry. We have Maori, Samoan, Sri Lankan, Irish, East Timorese and Philipino. What a great variety!
We are looking forward to a great year!

Phillip Trusttum visit.

Last term, during the final week, we walked down to the library to view the display of work by Philip Trusttum.

Susie from the Art Gallery met us there and explained about the display, after which went moved about the library looking at the display cabinets.

We came back to school and made our own drawings, trying to create them like Philip's work.

Today, Susie brought Philip to school and he talked about his work and showed us some more of his books. We then created our own pictures....

He handed out some finger puppets and some toys and we used these for inspiration......

We used felts just like Philip.

When we finished, Philip gave us all a finger puppet to keep. Thank you Philip for taking the time to come and share with us!

More stories from Room 2

The big bad wolf is afraid of a dinosaur because he can easily eat him up in one piece. And the wolf said, "Oh, man!" Then he ran away for ever and ever and ever. When the wolf was running he was screaming too and he found his house. Then he said, "I won't go out of the house again. And he said, "Phew!" Then he danced for joy.

More stories from Room 2

Why do ducks live near water?

Why ducks live near the water is so they can have a wash in the morning. They put their head under the water to find some weeds. Sometimes they waddle on the road. The cars beep. Then when the mother duck walks the ducklings walk in a line behind her, and it is a good exercise.

Today I had pancakes with golden syrup, baked beans, toasties with cheese and bacon, cheese crackers and sushi for breakfast. Then I watched The Hobbit then the first, second and third Lord of the Rings.
Then I went to my Secret Agent room and got into my invisible helicopter and flew to the dairy. Then I went to the donut shop and brought a donut with red icing on it and red jelly beans on it. Then when I got back into the invisible helicopter it took me to a Spell Chamber. I saw a well and it was the only way out so I said 'Goodbye' to the invisible helicopter and jumped into the well and fell into a Jelly monster which I thought was a swimming pool. There was no one else in the Jelly monster so I ate the Jelly monster up and got out of the well and went home.

Once there was a bee that couldn't fly, so he couldn't fly from flower to flower. I made a wee plane that flies round by itself. Then we went to the park. I took the plane with me. Charlie said, "What's that?"
"It's a plane that can fly round by itself."
"Ooh!" Said Charlie.
So I turned it on and then I attached the bee to it and it worked brilliantly well.
"Ooh! That's a cool thing" Charlie said.
